In case you didn’t know, Viking – of Viking Cruises fame – now sails the mighty Mississippi river with their first American river ship, Viking Mississippi. Take a look at what to expect when you step aboard for a Viking Mississippi River cruise.

With the launch of Viking Mississippi in 2022, cruise itineraries include the classic seven-night cruises between New Orleans, Louisiana and Memphis, Tennessee. In addition, Viking offers several longer one-way north or southbound cruises between St. Paul, Minnesota and New Orleans. There are also 11-, 18- and 22-night Mississippi cruises. As always, shore excursions are included.

Viking Mississippi Interior Spaces

Viking Mississippi Living Room — *Viking Mississippi* Living Room, one of the first places you’ll see upon boarding the river ship.

Viking Mississippi The Bow — Aptly named, The Bow, you have a front row seat to relax and watch the scenery.

As you scroll through these photos, if you’ve ever taken a Viking river or Viking ocean cruise, you’ll see some familiar spaces.

Viking Mississippi Sun Terrace — Like the infinity pools on Viking’s ocean ships, there will be an infinity plunge pool here.

It gets pretty darn humid in late summer on the lower Mississippi. This pool and terrace will be a welcome retreat, especially in July and August.

Viking Mississippi River Cafe — Viking Mississippi’s River Café features American classics and Mamsen’s Norwegian specialties.

One of my favorite spots on Viking’s ocean ships is Mamsen’s for authentic Norwegian food.

Viking Mississippi the Restaurant — A familiar name to Viking cruisers, The Restaurant is again the main dining room.

And again, Viking has brought their success from their ocean ships to the Mississippi River.

The two-story Explorers Lounge offers an almost panoramic view.

Viking Mississippi Aquavit Terrace — My favorite dining spot on both Viking’s river and ocean ships, Aquavit Terrace.

In total, there are 193 outside staterooms. Of these, 128 are Veranda & Deluxe Veranda Staterooms, eight staterooms have French Balconies, 24 Penthouse Veranda Staterooms, 16 Penthouse Junior Suites, seven Terrace Suites and 10 sprawling Explorer Suites.
