Cunard’s Commodore Club bars on all three Queens’ ships lauds new knightly cocktails.
Alliterations aside, the Commodore Clubย isย the place to be at sailaway. Or anytime. Located on Deck 8 aboard the Queen Mary 2 and all the way forward is where you’ll find the quietly popular Commodore Club. Quiet, but not because no one’s there. It’s because itย is one of those plush, iconic throwback bars where people speak quietly as they sip their martinis or Manhattans or whatever libation they choose. The piano player takes a cue from the crowd and plays old standards and show tunes just loud enough to be identifiedย yet softly enough that you can comfortably carry on a conversation.
Someone at Cunard must have thought it was timeย to jazz up their cocktail menu. At the same time that the Queen Mary 2 underwent a $132 million “remastering” (Cunardian for “refurbishment”), a very interesting and you could say, intoxicating new cocktail menu was being created.
Unknown to even the most diehard Cunard cruisers, seven of Cunard’s ship captains have received knighthood from the Queen (of England!), more than any other cruise line.
To celebrate and commemorate this outstanding achievement, Cunard’s talented onshore and on board bar teams have introduced seven new and cleverly conceived knightly cocktails forย the Commodore Club.
Oh Whatta Knight
Each of the seven cocktails reflects the historic and decorated story ofย each of the Knighted Cunard Commodores. Included in the cocktail barย experience isย a redone andย modern menu design complete with illustrations and stories behind the newย signature cocktails.
Top shelf ingredients are used toย create cocktails such as โPunchย Romainย ร laย Carpathiaโ, believed to be the last libation served aboard Titanic. Commodore Sir Arthurย Rostron, the inspiration for this cocktail and was responsible for leading the safe rescue of all survivors of Titanic. The cocktail featuresย Advocaatย as the signature ingredient.
Guests of the Commodore Clubย on boardย Queen Mary 2ย can enjoy theseย seven newly designed cocktails, includingย โOver the Top, inspired by Commodore Sirย James Charlesย (1865-1928).ย Known for doing things on a grand scale, this Commodoreโs dinner parties aboard Aquitania were opulent social affairs, and this aromatic and refreshing sharing cocktail is extravagantly presented.
If your travel plans have you aboard Cunard’s Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth, take heart. Both Queens will also have the new knightly cocktails very soon.
Almost 20 years ago, I created what became an award-winning cruise blog. In 2024, a scam artist conned me into selling it to him but I was never paid. Then he sold it and kept those proceeds. So I started this new site to continue my love for cruising. My newest passion is traveling around the US and Canada with my little dog Poppy, in my Travato camper van. I hope my articles and photos entertain, advise and inspire you to explore this amazing world. Visit TravelUpClose.com for all of my train articles, and ReadyGoHike.com for you outdoor enthusiasts.
