Viking Ocean takes delivery of the newest ship, Viking Orion.
Viking Cruisesย announced it took delivery of Viking Orion, when the ship was presented at Fincantieriโs shipyard in Ancona, Italy. Viking Orion, the fifth ocean ship in Viking’s fledgling fleet, will officially be named in Livorno, Italy on June 14. The ship’s godmother, Dr. Anna Fisher, American chemist, emergency room physician and retired NASA astronaut will lead the ceremony.
The shipโs name was inspired by the constellation, which is visible throughout the world, and Dr. Fisherโs work on NASAโs Orion exploration vehicle project. The new ship will spend her maiden season sailing the Mediterranean. Following the Med, the ship will reposition to Australia, Asia and Alaska. Viking Orion will be Vikingโs first ship to add cruises to Alaska to its roster of unique itineraries.
