Complete Guide to Cruise Line Room Service Fees

Updated for 2026 – For as long as I’ve been cruising (and that’s a long time), I remember when ordering room service was simple. Pick up the phone, order what you wanted and tip the person who delivered it to your stateroom.
But times have changed. Cruise line room service fees are now much more common, and figuring out what you’ll actually pay isn’t always as straightforward as it sounds.
Some cruise lines charge a delivery or convenience fee, while others charge individually for the food you order. Princess has a different system depending on how you place your order, while Disney and Holland America still offer traditional complimentary room service for most menu items.
Breakfast can be another exception. Several cruise lines offer complimentary continental breakfast even when room service later in the day comes with a fee. Others charge for breakfast delivery or for hot breakfast items.
Cruise Line Room Service Fees: Complete List
Room service policies vary quite a bit from one cruise line to another. Depending on the cruise line, you might pay a delivery or service fee, pay separately for certain menu items, or still find plenty of choices that are complimentary.
What Can I Order From Room Service?
Breakfast is probably the most popular room service order, but what’s included varies by cruise line. Some offer complimentary Continental breakfast, while others charge for delivery or for hot breakfast items such as eggs, omelets and breakfast meats.
Room service menus can include sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups, pizza, snacks and desserts. Depending on the cruise line and ship, you may also find full meals and specialty items available for an additional charge.
Holland America, for example, offers complimentary room service along with premium items for an additional charge. Princess also offers its Ultimate Balcony Dining experience for an additional fee.
Here’s what you’ll currently pay, or not pay, for room service on each cruise line.
List of Cruise Lines Room Service Fees
Carnival Cruise Line:
Carnival offers room service 24 hours a day, but most items ordered outside the complimentary breakfast are individually priced rather than covered by a single delivery charge.
The room-service menu includes sandwiches, quesadillas, chicken wings and tenders, salads, pizza, desserts and other snacks. Continental breakfast is complimentary from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Carnival specifically describes those breakfast selections as free.
Outside breakfast hours, guests pay the listed à la carte price for the food they order.
Celebrity Cruises:
Celebrity Cruises offers 24-hour room service with a $9.95 fee per order. The fee is the same whether you’re ordering one item or several items for everyone in the stateroom. An automatic gratuity is also added to the room service charge.
Continental breakfast is the exception. Order only from the Continental Breakfast section of the room service menu from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and there is no $9.95 room service fee. Complimentary Continental breakfast is available each morning except on disembarkation day. Hot and other breakfast items outside the Continental Breakfast menu are subject to the room service fee.
Guests staying in The Retreat and Zenith members of Celebrity’s Captain’s Club do not pay the room service fee.
Disney Cruise Line:
Disney remains one of the more generous cruise lines when it comes to room service. Most room-service food is included in the cruise fare and there is no standard room-service delivery fee. Room service is available 24 hours a day and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
Certain items and beverages may cost extra, including alcoholic beverages, bottled water and other specialty drinks. Gratuity for the crew member who delivers your order is at your discretion.
On the final night of the cruise, room service is available until 1:30 a.m.
Holland America:
Holland America continues to offer complimentary 24-hour room service, including breakfast and a selection of meals and snacks throughout the day and night. There is no blanket room-service delivery charge. However, HAL’s menu now combines complimentary selections with à la carte premium items that carry supplemental charges.
In other words, ordering room service itself doesn’t cost extra, but certain upgraded dishes do. Holland America specifically continues to promote breakfast in the stateroom as part of its included room-service offering.
MSC:
MSC is a little more complicated because the room-service benefit depends upon the Experience booked. For Fantastica and Aurea guests, continental breakfast in the stateroom and 24-hour room-service delivery are complimentary, although individual food items on the regular room-service menu can carry their own prices.
MSC’s current description specifically notes that room-service delivery can be complimentary while food is priced individually. For Bella guests, continental breakfast food is complimentary but delivery carries a fee.
Because the benefit varies by fare/Experience and itinerary, MSC does not have one simple fleetwide room-service price that applies to every passenger.
Guests staying in the MSC Yacht Club receive 24-hour room service as part of their Yacht Club benefits, with no standard room service delivery fee.Plus, each suite has a complimentary mini-bar. And the Yacht Club Lounge has a revolving array of hot and cold snacks throughout the day.
Norwegian Cruise Line:
NCL charges $4.95 per order for breakfast room service and up to $9.95 per order for room service at other times of the day. The individual standard food selections themselves are generally complimentary; the charge is essentially a convenience/delivery fee. Unlike Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Carnival, there is no complimentary continental-breakfast window for most cabins.
Guests staying in The Haven and Norwegian Suites receive 24-hour room service without the standard room-service delivery fee. A 20% gratuity and beverage service charge applies to non-complimentary beverages and certain special-occasion items.
Princess Cruises:
Princess offers 24-hour room service, but how much you pay depends on how you order. If you call room service from your stateroom phone, there is a $5 delivery fee for each order. You can also order food and drinks through OceanNow in the Princess app and have them delivered to your stateroom or other locations around the ship. OceanNow requires a one-time $14.99 activation fee per person for the entire cruise.
There is one nice exception at breakfast. You can fill out the breakfast order card in your stateroom and hang it outside your door the night before. Breakfast ordered this way is delivered to your stateroom with no delivery fee.
Guests with Princess Plus or Princess Premier don’t pay the $5 room service delivery fee or the $14.99 OceanNow activation fee. Some food and beverage items may still have an additional charge.
Royal Caribbean:
Royal Caribbean offers complimentary continental breakfast delivery to the stateroom, while most other room-service orders incur a $7.95 service charge per order, per room, plus an 18% gratuity. That single charge covers the order rather than being assessed for each food item. Ordering a hot American breakfast, including items such as eggs or omelets, triggers the room-service fee; sticking with the continental-breakfast selections avoids it. Some specialty beverages and other separately priced items can cost extra.
Virgin Voyages:
Virgin calls its room service ShipEats, with food and drinks available for delivery to your cabin 24 hours a day. There is a $10 delivery fee for ShipEats orders, but the fee is waived when you order $10 or more in paid food or beverage items. Most of the food on the ShipEats menu is included in your cruise fare, although certain specialty items and beverages cost extra. Guests staying in RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters do not pay the ShipEats delivery fee.
Cruise Lines With Included Room Service
Azamara:
Azamara includes 24-hour room service as part of the cruise fare. Breakfast can be ordered from the full breakfast menu, while the lunch and dinner room service menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza and desserts.
Luxury Cruise Lines
Book a cruise on Regent, Seabourn, Silversea, and Viking and as you’d expect, room service is complimentary. Most will even set up a tablecloth meal on your balcony. Luxury has its perks.
Do I Tip the Room Service Delivery Person?
You can give a small gratuity to the person who delivers your room service order, whether it’s included or not. I purposely get $20 worth of one-dollar bills just for room service.
Before I go to sleep, I set out $2.00 – $3.00 on the desk. When I get up to open the door for breakfast room service, I grab the money and have it in my hand.
As the delivery person leaves, I hand over the tip. This just makes the morning go so much easier.
Whether you pay a fee or it’s free, room service is something that every cruiser should try, if only just once.
It’s so nice to have breakfast in your robe rather than table service in the main dining room or fighting Lido Buffet traffic jams at 8am. Happy cruising!
