Holland America Lineโ€™s flagship, Rotterdam, is back in service after a two-week dry dock in the Netherlands. The refurbished ship is returning just in time for the summer Northern Europe season with several well-thought-out updates across the ship.

A Fresh Look and Feel for Holland Americaโ€™s Flagship

Guests boarding on April 26 were the first to see the changes, that focus on expanding entertainment options, improving accommodations for small groups and families, and refreshing many of the shipโ€™s public spaces.

Rotterdam has now resumed its seven-day Northern Europe itineraries, pairing scenic destinations with onboard experiences that feel a bit more open, comfortable, and lively.

More Places to Enjoy Live Music

One of the biggest changes on Rotterdam is the expanded focus on live music, something Holland America already does particularly well.

The popular Billboard Onboard and Rolling Stone Lounge venues now offer more seating, along with a redesigned layout that connects the spaces. It creates a more social atmosphere where guests can easily move between performances or simply settle in and enjoy the music.

Up at Crowโ€™s Nest, a new live music stage adds another layer to the shipโ€™s entertainment lineup. With its sweeping ocean views, this space now doubles as a venue for live performances, lectures, and enrichment programs.

Outdoor entertainment also gets a boost. A new stage at the Sea View Pool on Deck 9 brings live music outside, giving guests the option to enjoy performances in the open air during the day or in the evening.

Suite Updates Designed for Traveling Together

Accommodations were another priority during dry dock, especially for guests traveling with family or friends.

Twenty-two Vista Suites have been updated with new sofa beds, allowing them to comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Itโ€™s a practical change that makes it easier for small groups to stay together without moving up to larger, more expensive suites.

Refreshed Public Spaces and Interiors

Throughout the ship, guests will notice subtle but meaningful updates aimed at improving comfort and flow.

New carpeting has been installed in staterooms, corridors, and public areas, giving the ship a lighter and more updated appearance. In the main Dining Room, adjustments to table layouts make seating more flexible, whether traveling solo or with a group.

Other public areas received refreshed upholstery, refinished woodwork, updated flooring, and new wall coverings. These arenโ€™t dramatic changes, but together they give the ship a more polished, cohesive look.

The Greenhouse Spa & Salon also saw a small but welcome improvement with a new ergonomic hair-washing station, designed to make treatments more comfortable.

Casino and Onboard Amenities Get a Boost

The onboard casino has been refreshed as well, with about 20 additional slot machines added to the mix. Updated seating, new carpeting, and additional televisions in the table games area help create a more comfortable and engaging environment.

These updates make the space feel less crowded and more inviting, especially during busy evening hours.

A Quick Note on Retail Updates

While in dry dock, there were also updates to the onboard retail area, including a refreshed Effy Jewelry boutique with new lighting and displays. While noticeable, these changes take a back seat to the more meaningful enhancements in entertainment and guest spaces throughout the ship.

Sailing Northern Europe with a Few Extra Perks

With its return to service, Rotterdam is once again sailing seven-day itineraries through Northern Europe, visiting a mix of historic cities and scenic coastal destinations.
